Ask | Seek | Knock

Here it is looming before you. A closed door. Is it ominously locked and bolted with a rusty chain? Or is this door ajar, promising easy entrance?

The closed door analogy points to circumstances that could lead to new venues of work, opportunities for ministry, relationships, you name it. Circumstances that could lead somewhere, if only they availed themselves to us.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. | Matthew 7:7-8

It’s interesting to note that asking, seeking, and knocking are bundled together, each incomplete without the others.

It’s a progression. We don’t knock on every opportunity in sight. Before knocking, we need to ask and seek.

Ask.

Is there an opportunity that might be from the Lord? Does it line up with God’s Word? If this door opens where is it going to lead you?

Seek.

Prayer and fasting help a-line human will with God’s. Don’t proceed in a situation if peace does not go with you. If godly authority and/or counsel in your life are strongly opposed to your course of direction, take their concerns to heart. They might be seeing something you’re missing.

Knock.

With prayer, counsel, peace, and a heart dedicated to God’s perfect will, knock.

It’s a bit of a risk to knock. It might be the wrong door. God might not open it. But we are to knock. Not pound. Not bust it down. Knock

Ask in order to receive.

If you want to find, seek.

Knock and the door shall be opened.

What if you asked, sought God, knocked, and the door didn’t open?

Sometimes God expects us to keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking.

Sometimes in His love He keeps us from desires that are not best for us.

Sometimes He simply does not allow the door to open at all.

Remember this: a closed door isn’t rejection; it’s direction. God’s just getting you pointed in the right way.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. | Hebrews 11:6

God promises to guide those who diligently ask, seek, and knock.
